What is personal development?
Personal Development is the process of improving self awareness and your identity. You use activities to learn more about yourself, develop yourself, and contribute to your overall happiness. I’m going to share a bit about my journey and why I think personal development is so important for everyone.
Have you thought about who you are lately?
Like really thought about what makes you, you?
Are there areas of your life you feel like you need to improve? Maybe you’re trying to manage anxiety, or hate the fact that you’re a people pleaser. Maybe you’re just coasting by in life without feeling fulfilled.
Whatever you’re feeling can be improved by becoming more self aware. Personal Development is a lot like therapy. Your own personal positive outlet.
I want to share with you how to grow your self awareness and learn to put YOU first through personal development. It’s time to love yourself.
Think back to who you were 10 years ago.
I don’t even remember that person when I look back.
You most likely visualized your growth over the last decade. None of us can look back and say we are that same person.
Or we have to admit that we might kinda be the same.
Either way, growth is a great thing and needs to be happening constantly.
So think back, what’s changed and what’s remained the same? Do you ever think about how the you from 10 years ago and the you now relate?
Let’s discuss the constants first.
Over the past year and a half, I’ve learned a lot about personal development. And by practicing it daily, it has helped me become aware of some things in my life that have played an important role in shaping who I am.
For example, growing up I always loved writing.
As a child I loved playing ‘teacher’. I loved the organization, the paper, the markers, the planning, and the sitting behind a desk scenario.
I was probably in high school before I realized that teaching the public wasn’t for me lol. I started to think I was more of a PTA mom. Turns out I’m more of a homeschooling mom. Read more about that journey here.
But after I realized that becoming a public school teacher wasn’t for me, my dream job then became anything in an office. I wanted to use paper, pens, sticky notes, and sit behind a desk in a cute little office.
I did actually end up working in an office for a little while and I loved it. It was stressful at times but I really did love that job.
When I became a stay at home mom after 2 years of that, I started to miss my office space. So I created one for at home.
I was in direct sales at the time so it was easy to utilize the area. Plus I’m big into planning out my month with calendars and to do lists so I always enjoyed the space.
Now that I’m blogging, I’m realizing all of my past me’s have always had this one thing in common; I love to write. That’s one of my constants.
There’s always room to grow so don’t hold back.
Changes in life are going to happen. That’s normal and changes always tend to lead to something more positive.
So what’s changed in your life? Maybe you’ve lost a loved one, or outgrown a friendship, or gone through a heartbreak.
What about the positive changes that have happened?
Whatever the changes were, how did you handle the growth from that season?
Was your last season a little stormy? Did it hold you back?
Does a plant let a little rain stop it’s growth?
No, that’s what the plant needs to grow right? That plant always grows no matter the storms it endures.
As I hope you have and will always be able to do in the future.
If you’re not where you want to be, that’s ok. Because you’re exactly where you need to be.
Look back at how far you’ve come. Recognize the growth and the change that needs to happen now to propel your success.
Become more self aware. Do that by thinking. Sit alone with your thoughts and comb through them. Journal, write it all out.
Everything you’ve gone through has brought you to this very moment.
Stop thinking about where you should be and be grateful for where you are. You are growing and changing and that’s all that matters.
Don’t let the opinions of others hold you back from being your true self.
It took me a while to learn this. And to be honest I’m still working on it.
These days though, I’m less worried about pleasing others and more focused on taking care of me and my family.
One day it finally hit me that this is my life I’m living.
Just know that it all starts with you and your mindset. You have to believe that you are a badass and you are going to accomplish all of your goals that you have set for yourself.
You have to believe you are worthy of love and success. You have to learn about yourself and what you truly want in life.
What makes you happy?
Also remember to reflect on your growth. Think about how far you’ve come and where you want to take it. Don’t be afraid to level up. You can do anything you set your mind to.
Don’t rush yourself. Give it time. Change, mess up, try again, and enjoy the journey. Live for you. You are a badass. You just have to let her out.
